The Gift of Giving...Paintings!

Okay, I know I'm waaaay behind on posting here. My life has been a bit hectic as of late. Since my other half and I are moving away, I've been preoccupied with that and looking for a new job. Not only that but so many other stress related things going on in my head. That's what being an adult is all about, huh?

Anyway, my latest completed projects were two large paintings I made for gifts for my Dad and my younger brother. Since we live in Nebraska, my Dad is a fan of the Cornhuskers, and I've made him several Big Red related items, so this time I went with his favorite pro team, the Minnesota Vikings!

Ta-da! This acrylic painting is approximately 30'' x 32'' on quarter-inch masonite. Dad likes it and has it hanging in his office at work. My parents house doesn't have much wall space left between my Mom's art and mine.

Now, one of my prouder paintings. My brother is a big fan of the Halo series for Xbox, and of course his favorite character is Master Chief; but whose isn't, right? Ha....  So I got the idea to make this beauty for him to hang in his dorm and then his apartment, hopefully making his friends jealous so they can order their own version from me.

I'm so proud. This is one of my top five paintings, easy. My Mom also thinks it's really awesome. So, it's an acrylic painting on quarter-inch masonite and measures 4' x 2'. My fiance isn't a Halo fan, but he wants a painting like this one of Corvo Attano from Dishonored.

These took a lot out of me, and I'm currently working on some take-out menus for a local burger place and some lettered signs for the appliance shop in town. I keep forgetting how much a hate painting letters, I really need to stop agreeing to create worded signs....

I still plan to finish my level two drawing challenge...eventually....

Pierce the Heavens, Gurren Lagann

Another commission! My path towards arthood is well underway.

A friend of mine asked me to paint a picture of the drill from an anime titled Gurren Lagann. I have not watched this anime, but I've heard a lot about it. I also did a little research into the storyline and significance of the drill. The show takes place in a future Earth with some people living in subterranean villages. Some of these people are diggers that use drills to expand the living spaces underground. The main character, Simon, unearths a drill-key to a mecha and joins his brothers gang to one day reach the surface world.  There is much more to the show and you can find more information on the wikipedia page.

Anyway, I created the painting based on other images of the drill and the dark to light represents the drill traveling from the isolated, subterranean world into the light of the surface world.  The spiraling clouds and dirt represent the divide between the two.

I hope I've done the image justice with this painting. It is acrylic paint on canvas panel, size 11'' x 16''. (I think)
